Hxaro Leadership Institute Build a school
Hxaro  /  Schools
The Flagship Public Good

A school where no child leaves their identity at the gate.

Hxaro Schools are being built to give children a real, recognised education — without asking them to forget who they are. Rooted in /Xam and Khoekhoe knowledge, language, and dignity; reaching toward accredited futures and a calling.

Why

Education that erases is not education.

Too many children are taught a history in which they do not appear, in a language that is not their first, by a system that treats their inheritance as something to grow out of.

They learn to read the world, but not themselves. Hxaro Schools exist to close that wound — to teach a child the world and their place in it.

A child who knows where they come from learns the future with both hands.

The Model

Rooted below. Reaching above.

A Hxaro School holds two things together that the system usually splits apart: deep roots — language, memory, governance, dignity — and a strong accredited trunk that opens into real futures.

From that trunk, every child branches outward into leadership, enterprise, and service. The roots are not nostalgia. They are what makes the reaching possible.

What We Teach

Six pillars of a Hxaro School.

The accredited curriculum is the floor, not the ceiling. Around it, a child is formed whole.

i

Accredited Core

The full recognised curriculum — literacy, numeracy, sciences — taught to a high standard. No child is short-changed.

ii

Identity & Language

Mother-tongue strength, /Xam and Khoekhoe heritage, and the confidence of knowing one's own name.

iii

Indigenous Knowledge

Land, story, governance, and ecology — restored to the centre of learning, not the margins.

iv

Rites of Passage

Marked thresholds of growing up — responsibility, belonging, and the dignity of becoming.

v

Service & Circles

Every learner in a Hxaro Circle — gather, learn, serve, reflect, return. Leadership as lived responsibility.

vi

Hxaropreneurship

Work as calling. Enterprise, craft, and the skills to build — so a future is made, not merely awaited.

The Journey

From the smallest inheritor to the rising leader.

Early years

The Eland House

The youngest meet themselves in story — heritage carried gently, through wonder and play.

Foundation

Roots & letters

Strong literacy and numeracy beside language, land, and belonging.

Youth

Rites & responsibility

Thresholds marked, circles joined, service begun — character formed alongside knowledge.

Rising

Calling & enterprise

Accredited pathways, leadership, and hxaropreneurship — a future built with both hands.

Accreditation & Safety

The promises a parent has every right to demand.

On accreditation

  • We are building toward full accreditation — not claiming it before it is earned.
  • Accreditation is being pursued through the appropriate bodies: provincial registration and Umalusi quality assurance for schooling, and the QCTO for occupational programmes.
  • The accredited curriculum is the floor. A Hxaro education adds to a recognised qualification — it never replaces it.
  • We will publish our registration status openly as each milestone is reached.

Status is stated honestly and updated as the registration process advances. Nothing on this page should be read as a claim of current accreditation.

On safeguarding

  • Child safeguarding governs everything. When children are present, nothing is ever loose or informal.
  • Vetted educators and facilitators, a signed code of conduct, and clear referral pathways.
  • No private, unsupervised adult–child arrangements — ever. Consent for every photo and story.
  • The same pledge that governs our circles governs our schools.

The first Hxaro School begins with the people who believe a child should never have to choose between their future and their name.
